If you are new to WordPress and want to promote your older posts, the plugin is all you need. The plugin displays the thumbnail with the post title and gives you an option of how many posts you want to show. You can configure the image width(in px), Related post title, and exclude categories.

The plugin also has hover color, when a user roll over his mouse on the related post it can change color. With default the color of hover is set light grey. The Hover preview:
